  • About the Client

Lake Allatoona is a popular recreational destination attracting millions of visitors each year. Its immense size—over 12,000 acres at full capacity, with 270 miles of shoreline—is a major draw. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages the lake and much of its surrounding land, officially referring to it as Allatoona Lake, though the common name is Lake Allatoona.

The Corps oversees 25,000 acres of public land around the lake, maintaining some recreational areas while leasing others to private businesses. State and local government agencies also contribute to public access and facilities in the area.

  • About the Project

Lake Allatoona, a popular recreation spot attracting between 6.5 and 6.8 million visitors annually, relies heavily on the Blockhouse Boat Ramp. Unfortunately, the ramp’s existing dock had deteriorated into a hazardous condition. Rotting wood, crumbling concrete, and overall structural instability made the dock unsafe for public use. With only three anchor points, it could not accommodate the influx of boats during peak summer seasons, leading to long wait times. During the winter months, the dock became entirely inaccessible when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lowered the lake level by 17 feet for flood control.

  • About the Solution

The 8′ x 40′ floating dock features stylish driftwood grey PVC decking, providing a sturdy and low-maintenance platform. Access to the dock is effortless with a 4′ x 55′ ADA Compliant aluminum gangway meticulously designed with safety in mind. The non-skid decking, sturdy side railings, intermediate handrails, and innovative Edge Roll Off Guard provide peace of mind for visitors at the park. The dock is equipped with aluminum s cleats for secure boat docking, ensuring a worry-free boating experience.

  • About the Results

Lake Allatoona sought a docking system that ensured safety, provided an enjoyable experience, and offered year-round accessibility. The new floating dock and gangway have fulfilled this need, enabling patrons to enjoy boating, fishing, and other water sports throughout the year.
