The University of Kansas

The D1 Kansas Rowing team through the Athletic Department is a powerhouse in the Big 12 Conference, consistently competing at a high level in NCAA Division I rowing. Based out of Burcham Park in Lawrence, Kansas, the team boasts a rich history and a dedicated coaching staff that guides talented rowers to success on the water. Known for their hard work, discipline, and unwavering determination, the team strives for excellence in every race, pushing the boundaries of their potential and representing the University of Kansas with pride.

The University of Kansas Rowing Boathouse, completed in 2009, has been a cornerstone for the rowing program. However, its aging wooden dock, supplemented with plastic floating sections, had begun to show its age after 15 years. The university recognized the need for a more durable and aesthetically pleasing dock that would complement the river’s natural beauty. In 2023, the university partnered with AccuDock to design and construct a modern dock that would not only provide a safe and efficient launching point for the rowing teams but also enhance the overall experience of being on the water.

The new system offers a robust docking system for efficient and safe rowing launches. A 16’ x 32’ ramp leads to a 10’ x 225’ main floating dock. This dock extends 20 feet, culminating in a 5’ x 75’ area with three angled launch docks, each measuring 4’ x 18’. These dedicated launch docks are specifically designed for the smooth deployment of rowing shells and coach boats. A smaller 8’ x 28’ access ramp is also incorporated into the design. The entire dock system is securely anchored by the 16’ wide ramp, two strategically placed control arms, and additional retention cables, ensuring stability and durability in various water conditions.
